Welcome to the Vissers lab!

Our lab is fascinated by RNA biology, especially the RNA epitranscriptome and how it regulates stem cell behavior and neural development. In particular, methylation on RNA alters RNA processing to mediate gene expression dynamics. RNA can be methylated or demethylated depending on cellular context and various stimuli. We are interested in the regulation of this system and understanding how it is so dynamic across contexts. Can we manipulate the epitranscriptome to direct stem cell behavior? This work spans biochemistry, molecular biology, cellular biology, neuroscience and human medicine, with room for individualization of projects to optimize the strengths of each team member. If you’re interested in learning more about the lab or joining us, please contact Dr. Vissers at caroline.vissers@ucsf.edu
