Welcome to the Vissers lab!

Our lab is fascinated by human neurobiology across development and disease. We utilize cutting-edge human-derived organoid models and human samples to identify molecular pathways in the brain that drive neurogenesis and neurodegeneration. In particular, we study RNA modifications that drive differential gene expression through altered mRNA processing or ribosomal specificity and activity. In parallel, we utilize carefully designed CRISPRi screening technologies to identify new connections in genetic networks, gene expression pathways, and potential small molecule inhibitors of key enzymes. This work spans biochemistry, molecular biology, cellular biology, neuroscience and human medicine, with room for individualization of projects to optimize the strengths of each team member.
